Native Bidaské: Power of the Native Vote: O.J. Semans on Protecting Voting Access in 2026

Native News Online

As the 2026 midterm elections approach, the Native vote could have a significant impact in key races across the country.

On this episode of Native Bidaské, host Levi Rickert sits down with OJ Semans, Sr. (Rosebud Sioux) of Four Directions Native Vote - Indian Country to discuss voting access, mail-in ballots, voter registration, ballot drop boxes, Native political power and the importance of having a plan to vote.

Semans shares his decades of experience fighting for Native voting rights and explains why tribes and Native organizations need to prepare now to make sure Native voters can cast their ballots and have those votes counted.

The conversation also explores the role of Native youth, the importance of educating candidates and elected officials about Indian Country, and how Native voters can make their voices heard on issues affecting tribal communities and sovereignty.
